Adaptive Equipment for Increased Care
Adaptive Equipment for Increased Care
Adaptive equipment is the use of any tool or device to aid with any task associated with daily living. For regular individuals, these may be cellular phones or smart watches to improve the efficiency of tasks and to simplify errands or things people need to do. But in the case of health care for the elderly, the use of adaptive equipment takes on a new form that includes the coordination with family users and partners to utilize the best and most correct tools.
Study and Collaboration
When we use adaptive equipment at GCS, we do not merely implement strategies or use new technology. We create opportunities for us to interact with the family users and the community of our partners to determine the best tools to use. We take in consideration the comfort level of those under our care and how the new equipment will merge easily with the current lifestyle and pattern of living of the individual. This way we find the best approach and the best devices for the job.
Some Examples of Useful Adaptive Equipment for Elder Care:
Activator Poles – replacing the traditional canes or walkers, these devices add balance and mobility for a more efficient method of walking assistance.
Personal Care Alert Systems – coming in the form of smart watches or write-mounted devices, these tools allow for quick communication or alerts to reduce the risk of emergencies and accidents.
Medicine Box Alarms – these devices ensure that medication is properly and regularly taken by signaling prompts on the proper time and dosage.
FaceTime and Video Calls – using social media as a tool to communicate create opportuities for our partners to connect with one another despite challenges in distance and lockdown restrictions.
Using Technology to Provide Quality Service
We always search for the best means and tools to improve our services here at GCS. With coordination with the family, we can find ways to increase the quality of life of those under our care in meaningful and productive ways.
