GCS and Night Therapy
GCS and Night Therapy
One of the many situations experienced by those individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease is sleep disturbance. Especially during these long winters, many elderly patients face challenges when it comes to proper sleeping habits. Normal sleep patterns become disrupted, regular waking hours are changed, and the ability to recover and relax is greatly diminished. This is something that we seek to improve at GCS.
NITE-AD
In a recent study, it has been proposed that strategic night therapy is an effective method to help curb sleep disturbance in patients with suspected Alzheimer’s Disease. Many of these individuals experience various sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, or involuntary leg movement during sleep. The goal of these activities is to ultimately improve the quality of sleep and therefore the overall behavior of those under the care of GCS.
Sleep Hygiene Education
One of the first steps is education in sleep hygiene, There are proper steps an individual should take to prepare the body for a restful sleep period for the optimum results in rest and recovery.
Regular Exercise
Starting and maintaining a regular exercise and fitness routine is imperative to achieve good sleep patterns. Keeping the body fit and with good circulation contributes to the quality of sleep.
Light Exposure
Light exposure activities help restore broken sleep patterns and circadian rhythms. With careful study and coordination with the individual and the family, we can determine the history and pattern of sleeping that one is accustomed to. And with light exposure and proper time adjustment methods, proper sleep patterns can be restored and a restful sleep experience will follow.
Overall Care
At GCS, our goal is holistic care. From a patient’s physical well-being to their emotional stability and positivity, we study and apply methods to address all possible challenges. Such as the Montessori Approach for patients with Alzheimer’s, we are always developing new trends to provide the best care possible.
