Making Connections Despite the Pandemic
Making Connections Despite the Pandemic
The worldwide pandemic has continued to spread and more lockdowns have been enforced to help curb the rise in cases. New restrictions are being added and despite the efforts in vaccinations and health protocols, many individuals are still falling victim to new variants of the virus. These new forms are more communicable and can spread faster than before. This is a difficult situation for anybody, and it is even harder for the elderly in many homes and care centers.
Lockdowns mean stricter measures towards allowing people to come together. And since our services require multiple face-to-face interactions from caregiving and other health-oriented activities, this adds some unique challenges not just for us, but especially to those under our care. And though we follow and implement the highest standards in health and safety protocols, one of the hurdles we have to overcome is that families can no longer come together as easily as they did before. Communication and interaction is essential for the care we provide. Making the most of healthy family relationships help in the overall behavior and well-being of our partners. Losing that dynamic can create a feeling of sadness, of isolation, and even of depression. But GCS comes prepared with new strategies to make sure that connections remain strong.
Technology is one of the strengths that we see that can support our efforts in this time of restrictions. Through social media and the internet, we can bridge physical distances and allow families to see each and interact. Here are some of the ways we use technology to help the connections with family endure:
Real Time Video Calls – through scheduled calls with the family, we allow regular and measured interactions so that our loved ones can still feel the warmth of communicating with their loved ones without breaking their norms or routines.
Multimedia Messages – sending short video greetings, family photos, or inspirational messages adds value to the day-to-day experiences of those under our care. Adding to the overall positive attitude even despite the restrictions of the lockdowns.
Hands-On Art Activities – through the Montessori Approach, we have established art activities that are based on the interest of the individual to encourage creativity and motivation.
There are many ways we can work around the restrictions of the environment and still add value to the lives of those under our care. The holistic approach of GSC ensures that the quality of life is never diminished and we maintain an atmosphere of health and join at all times.
